2296 Kugultinov

2296 Kugultinov, provisional designation , is an asteroid in the asteroid belt about 22 kilometers in diameter. It was discovered on January 18, 1975 by Russian astronomer Lyudmila Chernykh at the Crimean Astrophysical Observatory in Nauchnyj.〔 It orbits the Sun at a distance of 2.6–3.7 AU once every 5 years and 8 months (2,072 days). As it belongs to the Themis family of asteroids, the orbit is almost coplanar with the ecliptic plane, tilted by only 1¼ degree.〔
It has a rotation period of 10 hours.〔 Photometric measurements of its light-curve in 2015 resulted in divergent time spans for the asteroid's synodic period of rotation. While one observation over a period of five days gave hours a second observation over 13 nights (performed in the same time period) yielded a much larger period of hours with an amplitude of 0.23 in magnitude.〔〔
The asteroid was named in honor of David Nikitich Kugultinov (1922–2006), renowned Soviet poet and national poet of the Republic of Kalmykia ''(also see 2287 Kalmykia)''.〔
